There will be no modern setting in the Assassins Creed franchise

Ubisoft said that a modern day war between the Assassins and Templars will not happen.

Lead writer Darby McDevitt from Ubisoft talked about the historic settings of the franchise. "We try to approach history with a sense of reverence and a sense of groundedness. We love doing our homework, visiting these locations, and researching real historical details, which we can incorporate into the game. We love making game's based on real historical places, and I don't think any era can be ruled out, but whichever era we choose to do next we will bring it to life in a realistic way. So, I wouldn't expect us to do a modern day Assassin's Creed anytime soon."

McDevitt said there’s always “a chance” for a modern setting, but if he had his way, Feudal Japan is one era he’d like to tick off the list. “I think the Shogunate is in a cool era. But it’s not up to one person, and whatever we do, we’ll make it cool.”
