IO Interactive details Contract mode for Hitman: Absolution

The developer revealed the new Contract Mode at gamescom 2012.

IO Interactive has introduced the new Contract Mode at gamescom 2012. The mode allows the community to create custom ‘contracts’ for missions. Developer head Chris Elversam and gameplay director Chris Elversam explain the new mode in the videos.

Hitman: Absolution will feature asynchronous multiplayer where players can create their own scenarios, pick out three characters on a level, choose the weapons, and challenge other players to “contract”. The players can earn money while completing the mission which they can spend on new scenarios with weapons and much more.

IO Interactive revealed that multiplayer contracts can be ported to other platforms. Designer Torben Ellert told explained that the developer was not able to create cross-platform multiplayer between PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.

This is why contracts can be imported from one system to another using the Contract ID numbers which begin with a code designating platform, while the rest explain the specific conditions of the content. Players can figure out the rules and replicate any contract. “The trick is you have to do it yourself. You have to be able to pull it off yourself,” Ellert said.
