Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut clarifies ending

Bioware has announced a free DLC which will clarify the ending of the game but it won't provide a new ending.

BioWare has announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut which is a free DLC pack expanding the events at the end of the game. The free DLC will not contain a different ending. The Extended Cut will be available for free in the summer for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Extended Cut features additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes and it will give fans “seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes”.

"Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3," BioWare said. "The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story."

The team is currently working on “a number of game content initiatives which would help answer questions, and provide more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey”.

“We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team,” Muzyka from Bioware said. “Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

“We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game,” executive producer Casey Hudson from Bioware said. The DLC was created in a way that “will feel more personalized for each player”.

Auf der PAX East 2012 sagte BioWare Producer Mike Gamble: “Many people mentioned that some of the choices they made in the game are not necessarily reflected in the ending scenes. We’re definitely going to focus on things like that. We want to make sure that when you see the ending of Mass Effect, you now have the information and context to be satisfied.”

Der Extended Cut enthält mehr als “just a few cinematic scenes”. Dennoch sagt er, dass man stolz auf das fertige Produkt ist, es aber dennoch wichtig ist auf die Fan-Community zu hören.

“A lot of that feedback didn’t come until the game came out, once we were listening we decided to include the extended cut. It wasn’t in the game because we didn’t know there was such a huge demand for it, to be honest with you.”
