Battlefield 4's Levolution and Commander Mode detailed, has multiplayer elements in campaign

DICE has detailed two multiplayer modes and announced a new type of singlepayer missions.

In the video below DICE GM Karl Magnus Troedsson and EAvision’s Stephanie Prentice discuss the Levolution and the Commander Mode.

Levolution means that level in the game will evolve over time on a multiplayer map. One example of this is the skyscraper in the Siege of Shanghai map, can be demolished by placing C4 on its four players. This will collapse the building, and will change the location of the flag in Conquest mode and kick dust into the surrounding area – making it hard to see. Bollards can also be raised to block roads and impede vehicles.

Commander Mode is playable on a tablet or mobile device and gives the user a “birds eye view” to support the troops on the ground and call in air strikes. An improved Battelog will be integrated into the console experience and is also available as an app.

DICE wants to bring key elements of online play into the single-player component because of the difference between the series’ campaign and multiplayer modes

DICE’s general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson said: “There are signature multiplayer elements that we want to bring into single-player. We want to give the player a choice. Do they want to go for the sneaky approach with a sniper rifle and a silenced pistol, or do they want to take a jeep and have the entire squad shoot at everything they see?”

Players will also be able order their AI squad-mates to provide suppressing or covering fire. There will be wide open terrain littered with vehicles in the singleplayer campaign to provide more tactical options.
