Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag - Ubisoft details campaign, justifies numbered title

A fact sheet from Ubisoft states that 40% of the game’s campaign missions will take place at sea. The publisher also clarifies why the game is called Assassins Creed 4.

Here's what a fact sheet from Ubisoft said: “Mission wise, land missions will represent approximately 60% of the game and naval ones 40%. But if you take the global experience that players will leave with ACIVBF we’re more talking about 50-50.” The game also features side missions where you have to dive under water to search treasure chests or to hunt whales.

The publisher and developer explained that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is not Assassin’s Creed 3.5 while explaining the volume of new content that justifies the numbered title.

Ubisoft lead content manager Carsten Myhill said of the game’s scope: “The whole feeling of the game is completely fresh and new. It will feel very different to Assassin’s Creed 3. I think it completely warrants the Assassin’s Creed 4 moniker, not only with the new name and setting, but the attitude and the tone of the experience.”

“We want to make it clear to fans, and those who haven’t played Assassin’s Creed before, that this is a pirate game. The ‘Black Flag’ is there, it says ‘hey, this is the HD, open-world action adventure pirate game you’ve been waiting for’”
